PROGRAM CHANGE

The Briagolong Film Festival is nearly here (8th – 10th June) and we are sorry to have to announce a PROGRAM CHANGE on Sunday afternoon.

The distribution company has notified us that they will not be releasing the film Breath. We are very disappointed and know that many people were looking forward to seeing Breath, but have a terrific replacement lined up.

The story follows a man who returns home to discover a long-buried family secret, and whose attempts to put things right threaten to shatter the lives of those he left behind years before. Set in a dying logging town and based on the Henrik Ibsen play The Wild Duck, it is a beautiful production with strong acting and direction. This film is a thoughtful meditation on the bonds of family, friendship and community and has won many awards.

Comrades and a Cabin (G) 14 minute documentary.

This years 2018 Short Film “Comrades and a Cabin’ will be screened
Saturday
JUNE 9 at 7pm

Still - DSCF6084

This documentary explores the background to and construction of the one and only Briagolong RSL Log Cabin in the late 1940’s. Narrator and consummate story-teller, Chris Lawless, escorts the viewer through a number of anecdotes – some humorous but always poignant – which intersperse a series of interviews (with Jane Mosley, Dawn Freeman and Mark Wagstaff) highlighting the beneficial relationship between war veterans and the Cabin and the Cabin’s contemporary relevance to the town.

The narrative of the film is adeptly promoted by a ballad (written specifically for the project by Diane Lawton), arranged and sung (by Anita Hensen) and recorded locally (by Barrie Clissold). Historical re-enactments (performed by local townsfolk) add richness. The film was devised, written, produced, filmed, acted, sung and edited by a group of Briagolonians.

Producer: Geoff Benton.

Directors: Rod McMillan, Colleen Geysen, Paul Geysen.

Gerard Callinan will host an informative Q&A session with people involved in making this locally-significant documentary after the premiere.
